yung j's sample chapter

Sample Chapter
by: Justin Quarles

In this story, there is a boy named Joey Pigza. He's not just a good kid he's a great kid. But he's a boy who can't sit still in class, also he can never pay attention, he can't follow the rules, and he can't help it-especially when his meds are not working. Joey's had problems ever since he was born, problems just like his dad and his grandma have. And wether he's wreaking havoc on a class trip or swallowing his house key, Joey's problems are getting worse. In fact, his behavior is so off the wall that his teachers are threatening to send him to the special-ed center downtown. Joey knows he's a really good kid, but no matter how hard he tries to do the right thing, something always seems to go wrong. Joey can never be a normal kid because some people might think he might be retarted or mental. This is just how Joey is because like I said his granmother was born wired, so was his father Carter Pigza and Joey followed right behind them. It's like if our family tree like Joey would say '' My family tree looks like a set of high-voltage wires strung across a field from one steel tower to the next''. Joey's grandma all the time saqid that Joey was just like his dad, ''bouncing of the walls twenty-four hours a day''. But Joey is sad because he never got the chance to see his own father because Joey's dad didn't want him to be just like him but it turns out that he did. But, I can tell that Joey's mom wasn't a big fan of Joey's dad. Joey's mom thinks that Joey seeing his father would be a bad idea because when Joey's father left him, his mom thought that he was drunk and he wouldn't stop bouncing off the walls or stop drinking. Joey is so eager to see his father but like grandma said, ''He hasn't bounced in our direction so I guess he still is bouncing around somewhere else. But I know someday he might spring back and just bounce right through the front door. Joey said, '' I wish he would because I only just hear about him now, and I'd like to see for myself what he is like. His mom knows that he wnats to see his father but even though he misses him alot, his mom want shim to stop talking about him so she can forget about all the bad memories that they use to have together. She only wants to focus on Joey and his problems. Anyways Joey can also be a handful. Sometimes Joey wonders how he can be a pain and almost all of the time he's not even in that classroom. He's mostly in the principal's office, the nurses office, helping in the library, helping in the cafeteria, or running laps in the play ground. The first year at his school, the year was no different. When he started out all the days there looked the same. Sometimes, in the morning his meds were working fine because, in the morning he would follow along in class but after lunch in the afternoon, his meds had worn down and Joey knew that it was trouble for him. One day in class his classmates and him were doing math drills and every time Mrs. Maxy asked a question, Joey would raise his hand because he's quick at math but, each time she called on him, even though he knew the answer, he would just blurt out, ''Can I get back to you on that'', then he wuld fall out of his chair laughing. So mostly, Joey's whole back story begins in school where he is feeling all types of emotions. Joey maybe, a kid who doesn't listen well, bounces of the walls and maybe gets in trouble alot in school, but like the book says, Joey's not just a good kid, he's a great kid. But like I said before, no matter how hard he tries to have friends or fit in, something always seems to go wrong. So that's the whole backstory of Joey Pigza.

Homework 106

I remember one time in elementary school, i saw someone get bullied by a sixth grader. What I did was tell someone in authority then I would tell the person that got bullied to stay away form particular people that seem like trouble just like my father does. Trust me getting bullied is not fun and I should know because I was a target in 5th grade and I was the easiest to pick on.Yes I do think that this information can help solve problems for bullying and prejudice.

Homework 105

1. I think the most important righht is ''Students Responsibilities''. I think that right is the most important because, forexample: we should already attend school daily and on time. Another example is: making efforts to achieve and be glorious in every class. This means that ''Students Responsibilities'' are the most important rights.

2. I don't think none of the rights suprised me the most. I think that none of them surprised me because, for example: I think that all the students in the school know how to act because their parents raised them to have manners. Another example is: we should also already know that doing our classwork and homework is part of us passsing and participating, passing quizzes and tests. This means that since we are going to an academic rigerrious school, we should make grown up decisions.

3. I think that my rights are protected at FDA because, for example: at FDA we have teachers that are supportive and want us to do well in school and go to a good college. Another example is: our teachers also provide us with materials that will help us on the state test and everything else. This means that the teachers show they care.

I think that the Watsons are good parents. I think they're good parents because they're parents that are willing to take a risk with their kids, also it shows that they love their kids. It maybe hard to raise kids that do particular things that makes their parents mad, for example: In chapter 7, Mrs. Watson is mad because of what Byron did to his hair. Mrs. Watson thought it was a joke and said to Byron, '' Byron Watson, you take off that hat and get over here right this minute''.

Also his dad, Mr. Watson is trying not to get mad at what Byron has done. He tries to wash out the chemicals in his hair but sadly it has to grow out. I think Byron has to go to a prison and meet his dad. He's kind of nervous because evn his little brother Joey said '' Why is this so funny to you Kenny?''

I think I might live with the Watsons because Mrs. Watson craes about her family and doesn't like anyone mkaing smart comments, not even her husband. For example: Mr. Watson was making a comment about how Mrs. Watsons mother screams into the phone so Mrs. Watson said
'' You leave my mother alone.'' That shows that she loves her grandmother.

But overall, living with the Watsons would be an up and down type of relationship because there's some things that they do to their children that's bad. Trust me you would not want to be in chapter 5. For example: Mrs. Watson warned Byron not to play with fire and she said'' I won't have you putting this family in danger. Just once more, Byron Watson, one more time and you're
burned.'' Even though it's painful, It shows that she cares.

Grandma Sands specifically said, '' If y'all going to the water, she said stay away from Collier's Landing because Miss Thompson's son Jimmy, got caught
in the Whool Pool [ Whirl Pool], and they said that they couldn't find the poor
soul's body for three days. Grandma Sands said to stay away from Collier's Landing, but of course I have to do the opposite and learn my lesson. I stuck my hand in the water and the ground under my feet were sliding away from the shore and I got really nervous. Next thing you know, I was kicking in the water. I was trying to swim away but my head bobbed under the water. then my head bobbed under the water a second time and when I watch cartoons they say that if your head goes down a third time you never come back up again.

Justin's 45-minute reading response

This part of the story was about how Rowley had a cmoic strip called Zoo-Wee Mama but he quit that because he said he wanted more time to play with his ''Dinoblazer action figures. So since Rowley's magic act was toast, Rodrick and his band were in the talent show, and let me just tell you they really sucked. It was so bad that Mr. Heffley had to leave the auditorium and put earplugs on. It was certainly not pretty.

JDizzle's Chris Brown Moment

One song that reminds me of someone is '' Yo-Excuse Me Miss'' by: Chris Brown. It reminds me of a girl named Victoria Porter. Victoria is a friendly, helpful, sweet & sometimes a little bit feisty. But she's still my friend & has feelings. '' Yo-Excuse Me Miss'' is a song where Chris Brown sees this girl & wants her to dance & be with him. That reminded me when I use to like Victoria but sadly she wasn't interested. Although Victoria gets on my bad side and so do I, we're still like a nice & normal family. I love that song. I listen to it so much that I can barely do my schoolwork or homework. I just love that song. Thank you.

JDizzle's African Burial Ground Essay

In 1991, the construction site found more than 400 men, women and children. The unlikely discovery turned out to be the largest black colonial grave-yard ever dug up in the United
States. Today, it is now known as the African Burial Ground Memorial. Located in lower Man-
hattan at Duane Street and Elk street, the memorial, which is also a national monument it
honors the memeories of the 15,000-20,000 free and enslaved Africans who were buried at
this African cemetry during the 17th and 18th centuries.

The Burial Ground, in an area known by historians as ''Little Africa'', offers proof that those free and enslaved Africans played a major role in the development of New Amsterdam, now known as New York City. The first Africans came to New Amsterdam in 1626 because The West India Company wanted to build up the colony but wanted to use cheap labor to do it. The male slaves
that came from the West Indies were taught to be artisans, craftsmen and skilled laborers
associated with shipping, construction and other trades in addition to being servants. They built
buildings, roads and walls [ including the Wall which Wall Street is named] but they also tended
flock and unload cargo ships. The females mainly did housework, things that were more involved in the house, like cleaning and cooking. Even though they were far away from home, the African
slaves still kept some of their rituals that they practiced back in Africa to deal with the pressure
of being slaves in New Amsterdam.

While the African slaves were here, some slaves, under Dutch rule, became half-free, with some freedom to do things like white people before New Amsterdam was captured by the British in 1664. At the time, New Amsterdam had the second highest population of enslaved slaves in the
United States. In 1827, New York abolished slavery but the burial ground remained until its dosure in 1812. Records of births and deaths were kept by churches, not by the colonial and early state governments but most church records were destroyed and some Africans were not church members, which is why it's hard for scientists and historians to figure out who those Africans are.

Out of the more than 400 that were found, 99% were infants and 40% of them were under the age of 12 which means the kids were worked to death. There are around 200 remains at the site that are not disturbed. The burial site takes up about 6.6 acres [ around 6 city blocks in those days]. It has been called one of the most important archaeological fins of our time.
